Kitchen Before.....

Oh wholy wow!!!!

So the husband came back from hunting and went full force on the kitchen renovation. I am posting two pictures of the after math of it ( I will post all the before later) Then you will be able to see where it all started. I left to take the daughter to her dance class and came back to all of this......
Now don't get me wrong i am super excited that he's gotten as far as he has (two days ahead of schedule, fingers crossed it stays that way) and the kitchen looks HUGE with it all open....
But the MESS wholly Hannah. I am by no means a 'neat freak' (no offence to the neat freaks out there) but wow, dust and crap every where. I knew it was going to be messy with the removal of the bulkheads but there was drywall and plaster and its a fine dust so you look around and it doesn't seem that bad but then you walk with black socks on and it comes off on them. On top of all that the daughter is slightly freaked out that there are now bigger wholes into the attic were the spiders live and the dog has no idea whats going on. I will have to deal with it all. I have advised the husband that he is not allowed to touch the rest of the bulkheads until he has taped off the doors leading to the hall and dinning room. Besides its his birthday today and I don't want him to complain later that I made him 'work' on his birthday!!! Happy Birthday Dear, have a fantastic day!!

Finished.....

So excited that this got finnished on time (down to the wire)

Bathroom during.....

The rip out starts......

Bathroom....

Starting the bathroom renovation was stressful. Neither one of us had done any renovations before. Sure we both had done some painting and fixing here and there but this was the first big renovation. With a set time line (5 weeks) we had to get it done on time. Not only were we going away we were having a party when we got back......
The last time this bathroom was renovated was in 1972 (we know cause we found paper wrapping the plumbing with that date on it.....

Bathroom counter before and Shower/tub area before

After's.....

Here are the afters. A lot of this was just some paint and elbow work. The kitchen was/is just a tie over cause it was very cold before. Now we're going to do the major kitchen reno. I will post all of the kitchen before pictures after the bathroom ones.

Progress is what he calls it......

So the husband opted to knock some holes into the bulkhead just to make me happy. Now I have 4 gaping holes in the walls/ceiling and have to deal with my daughters hysterical cries cause she thinks she see spiders coming out of the holes. Didn't help that the husband decided to tell her he had had a dream about the holes and in his dream there were spiders and mice coming out of said holes. Good Grief!!! We did however find out that there is nothing in the bulkheads so we can rip them down. Yeah for small miracles. But all the walls are built up with drywall AND plaster = lots of dust!! Why would they do that??? It was a new extension onto the house....why not do it the new way.
Oh well we have a timeline to get everything done and with my fingers crossed we will hopefully meet this timeline. I really don't want to call the cabinet guy to push back the install date never mind that I would also have to change my holidays to work for a new install date. Man oh man!!!

Procrastnation.......Already!!!!

Well its started....The husband has finished his 'shed/garage' enclosure finally. As a reward he is going 'hunting' for 5 days. Which means nothing else is getting started/done until he gets back. He's only asked me to 'pack' up the kitchen in preparation of the demolition when he returns, I can have the kitchen packed up in 1 day then what I am I suppose to do for 4 days???? Seriously thinking I could start the demolition (really how hard could it be)Really all there's not much to it, be careful not to ruin the walls behind the cabinets (less repair that way) and just start taking the old cabinets down. i know how to use a screwdriver, hammer... What I really want to do is throw a sledgehammer through the freakin cabinets just to get rid of them. But I wont...knowing my luck I would put a really big a hole in the wall and it wont be repairable. So do I wait??? or do I start slowly???

This is the house....

So this is the house that we bought in May 2002, it has 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and all the usual stuff (kitchen, dinning room, living room) Approximately 2500 sq ft. This picture was taken after we replaced all the windows to double pains. Next is the new door.....

In the beginning.....

So I have decided to start a blog about the on goings with the renovation of my kitchen. I am pretty sure this will turn into a venting blog also with all the drama that can ensue when doing a renovation with your spouse of 12 years. Never mind the fact that we also have a 10 year old daughter and a 7 year old Beagle. Who will some how end up in pictures and the topic of some posts. I will upload as many before pictures that I can find (taken way before the option of digital)

We have made a few changes to the house slowly ie. bathroom, daughters bedroom, 2 bedroom guest suite, painting of dinning room and living room...but now we're starting the big stuff, Like the kitchen, flooring and the exterior of the house.

Should be fun!!!
